Problem(s)

  • The area is susceptible to natural disasters such as typhoons and floods, which contaminate water sources

 

Intervention and Impact

  • Trained the community in DPRR, including how to recognise signs of an impending typhoon, how to evacuate the community, and what to do in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster
  • Increased access to safe drinking water and appropriate sanitation facilities at schools and designated evacuation centres by installing water filtration units at four schools in Tam Giang Commune, and constructing one sanitation facility at one of the commune’s school
  • Increased water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) awareness at schools through WASH training programmes, resulting in good hygiene practices being adopted by the local community
