Problem(s):
- Predominantly rural population which did not have the financial means to invest in household or community sanitation facilities
- Limited access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation in the rural areas of the province
Intervention and Impact
- Collaborated with the Life Skill Development Association to implement a holistic approach to ensuring the well-being of the rural communities
- Implemented activities to raise water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) awareness in one school
- Conducted workshops to teach the students proper hygiene practices, for example, by practicing the correct steps for hand washing
- Constructed a tube well, elevated water tanks and distribution piping from the school pump to the village
- Constructed a toilet block in the school and another one in the village
- As sustainable hygiene practices were adopted by the local community, it made for a healthier living environment
