Date: July 2003

The intense heat wave that struck Afghanistan in July 2003 resulted in a mass exodus to the Durand Line – the Afghan-Pakistan border – close to Sada, Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan. An appeal for international humanitarian aid was made. Mercy Relief, already in the region supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, was in a position to help.

Partner(s): Singapore Red Cross Society, local Afghan authorities

How we helped:

  • Donated 31,000 cans of corned meat as well as fresh meat from 22 cows to 5,000 Afghan refugee families living at the border
