Afghanistan
October - November 2001
Raised S$128,000 in a national fundraising campaign in aid of Afghan refugees.
January - May 2002
Participated in the joint assessment mission with the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) and SingHealth for the Singapore-Afghan medical mission. 5 medical relief missions comprising 18 doctors, nurses and logistical personnel were deployed in Spin Boldak during this period.
June - September 2002
A container of 28,800 units of canned meat was sent to Spin Boldak, Zabul and Kandahar. An additional consignment of blankets were delivered to the Spin Boldak medical centre in September 2002.
September 2002 - September 2003
With co-sponsors, Muslim Aid Australia (MAA), Mercy Relief provided two medical GPs for the medical centre and hospital in Spin Boldak and Kandahar. During the same period, Mercy Relief also provided for the running of two elementary schools for child refugees in Spin Boldak in the same period.
July 2003
Mercy Relief provided and coordinated a food relief programme in the northern Afghan-Pakistan border near Sada, Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan with partners, the Singapore Red Cross Society (SRCS). 31,000 cans of corned mutton and fresh meat from 22 slaughtered cattle, amounting to S$100,000 were distributed for this initiative.
Iran
January 2004
Mercy Relief responded to the humanitarian crisis resulting from the 26 December 2003 earthquake in Bam. With its partners, the Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO), the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), the Singapore Catholic Archdiocese, the Singapore Soka Association and the Young Sikh Association, Mercy Relief initiated a national fundraising effort and raised S$484,000 for the victims of the disaster.
Two containers of relief supplies consisting of 18,500 units of brand new clothes and winterwear, food, household items, personal hygiene packs and medicines were dispatched to Bam.
April 2004
With the Catholic Medical Guild and Singapore Red Cross Society, Mercy Relief sent an assessment team to Bam to verify the existing needs of the victims. 2 orphanages and 2 relief warehouses were reconstructed in the affected areas.
Iraq
March 2003
Mercy Relief raised S$177,000 in a national fundraising effort for Iraqi refugees and victims of war and, in November 2003, provided food relief in the form of meat and porridge to 500 people in Baghdad.
Palestine
May - June 2002
In collaboration with the Yuan Meng Shih Temple and the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), Mercy Relief raised S$383,000 to procure medical supplies and equipment the MAA to attend to the sick, young, injured, disable and aged Palestinian refugees. An ambulance, ultrasound machine, medicines, semi-fowler beds and wheelchairs were also procured and donation to the El Wafa hospital and rehabilitation centre in Gaza.
An orthopaedic operation table, anaesthesia machine and lighting equipment totaling S$140,000 for procured for the orthopaedic surgery room at the El Wafa hospital in January 2004.
