Date: July – September 2006
The Lebanon war with Israel began on 12 July 2006 and ended with a United Nations brokered ceasefire on 14 August 2006. The conflict resulted in the deaths of more than 1,000 Lebanese and 165 Israelis, and displaced up to 500,000 Israelis and roughly twice that number of Lebanese. Mercy Relief sent a response team to offer aid in the wake of the 34-day conflict.
Partner(s): Lebanese Welfare Associate for the Handicapped (LWAH)
How we helped:
- Sent a first response team to assess the needs of the community and collaborate with local NGOs
- Distributed 1,000 play packs and books donated by the Singapore public to children with the help of LWAH. We also brought with us handwritten notes from Singaporean children of different faiths
