Q1: How do I ascertain that the person is really seeking donations for Mercy Relief’s General Fund and General Relief Fund?

A: Mercy Relief will apply for a license from the Singapore Police Force for any public donation collection under the House to House and Street Collections Act. Any person seeking donations on Mercy Relief’s behalf will be given the Collector’s Certificate of Authority, bearing his/her name, Identification Card (IC) number and details of the fundraising campaign, including dates and places of funds collection.

This certificate will bear the original Mercy Relief stamp together with an original signature of authorisation of a Mercy Relief’s official. The collector must be able to produce this certificate as evidence that he is an authorised collector and must also show his IC for verification purposes.

Q2: How can I donate to the General Fund?

A: Donations can be made through the following channels:

  1. Credit Card donation via Mercy Relief’s website: www.mercyrelief.org (“Support Our Cause” > “General Fund/General Relief Fund”)
  2. Cross cheque to “Mercy Relief Limited” with “General Fund/General Relief Fund” written on the back of the cheque, and mail it to Blk 160, Lorong 1 Toa Payoh, #01-1568, S310160
  3. Cash donations at Blk 160, Lorong 1 Toa Payoh, #01-1568, S310160
  4. ATM Transfer / Internet Banking: (General Fund)
    Direct to Mercy Relief’s DBS Current Account 054-900493-6
  5. GIRO (General Fund)
    To donate via GIRO, please download the form here and mail to Blk 160 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh #01-1568, Singapore 310160
  6. Tele-Mercy: (General Fund)

Q3: I want to start a fundraising campaign in my school/company/ organisation. What do I do?

A: Mercy Relief welcomes collaborations with potential groups/ individuals for fundraising initiatives to support our daily operations. For further discussions, kindly email us at intouch@mercyrelief.org.

 

Q4: How are the funds in Mercy Relief’s General Fund used?

A: Funds collected go toward supporting our operational expenses including the design and implementation of holistic aid programmes that benefit the underprivileged communities we work with in Asia.

 

Q5: How do I know if the third party fundraiser is legitimate?

A: The list of legitimate third party fundraisers will be updated on the Mercy Relief website.

Q6: Does Mercy Relief solicit funds through door-to-door donations?

A: No. At the moment we do not have any approved door-to-door collection.

 

Q7: Will I receive tax exemption for my donation to Mercy Relief’s General Fund and General Relief Fund?

A: Donations to our General Fund will enjoy a 2.5 times tax deduction. Donations for overseas purposes (General Relief Fund & Disaster Relief Fund) are not tax-deductible. Tax exemption is allowed for donations to an IPC for its local facilities and programs. Tax exemption is not allowed to the IPC if the donations are for foreign charitable purposes.
